I’m so incredibly excited to have won Canada’s Professional Stager of the Year in the Vacant staging category (RESA – Real Estate Staging Association). Top 10 has been an honour by itself with so many incredibly talented stagers across Canada. So winning top place is very humbling! I couldn’t do it without my amazing team! When I started Staged for Upsell almost 5 years ago this wasn’t even on my radar or something I would have thought was possible. I’m pretty lucky to get to do what I love everyday!
We’re so excited to be working with Stonewater Homes on the Spring 2019 QEII Lottery Dream Home! Design work will commence very soon. This home is being built in Indigo Shores, as was the farmhouse style 2018 QEII Spring Lottery Dream Home we completed. The style for this home will be ‘lakehouse’. Stay tuned!
What a honour to be chosen as the designer for the Spring 2018 QEII Lottery Home. This gorgeous home was being built by Stonewater Homes in Indigo Shores on McCabe Lake Drive.
The style chosen for the home was modern farmhouse. Modern farmhouse style is extremely popular in the United States with shows such as Fixer Upper showcasing this gorgeous, relaxed style. Design choices during the build and all the furniture and decor choices have created a space that appeals equally to men and women. We hope you get a chance to visit it in person at 510 McCabe Lake Drive. It’s now open to the public 7 days a week. You can buy your tickets at QEII Grand Prize Showhome.
Believe it or not I actually get some people who still ask “Does home staging really work?” Yes, really even in this day and age, I still get the question sometimes! Well, here’s a great example of a property that needed staging and professional photos (by the way – every home needs staging and professional photos!)
Online photos are almost always a buyer’s first encounter with a property. If the like what they see they’ll ask their realtor to view the property. Or, as in many cases, the realtors are sending the listing to their client. First problem? The top photo was the online photo of the living room area.
With this property there were renters in the home when it first went on the market. This can make it tougher to sell the property – from getting good photos to having the property look presentable for viewings, or even gaining access for viewings. Once the renters moved out, the home owner was still having trouble selling it. Wondering why? Well first of all it was vacant. Any vacant property, no matter the price range, style of home, bells and whistles feels cold and lifeless without furniture and decor in it. (We make them feel cozy and lived in!)
This home was also very small – approximately 900 sq. ft. and it was a 2 bedroom home! Rooms that are vacant will look smaller than they are. Buyers will also struggle with figuring out placement of furniture and be concerned it’s just not big enough to live in.
I fell it in love with it immediately – knowing its potential with staging and professional photography. I knew that we could make this 900 sq. ft home look amazing, functional, and amazing. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. ps….Needless to say it sold quickly!

We’re so excited with how the Chives Bistro’s renovation turned out. Chives has always been known for their amazing food. As far as reviews went they always scored high on food, but clientele would note the decor was shall we say lacking or not in-line with the excellent, award winning food.
The combination of teal chenille banquettes, antique mirror galleries along the walls, new dining tables, rich colours, and the flood of champagne lighting from the pendant light fixtures throughout give the space a rich, gorgeous upscale feeling. Check out some of the photos below by Chris J. Dickson.
We’re thrilled to be a 2017 co-finalist with Armco Capital for the Canadian Home Builders’ Association’s National Award for Housing Excellence. We were named along with five other companies across Canada in the Interior Decorating category for our work at the Indigo Shores Information Center. The Indigo Shores Model Home’s is the hub of the Indigo Shores development, Halifax’s premier lakefront community.
This modern urban cottage home is a beautiful mix of casual modern furniture, natural wood pieces, nautical inspired artwork and accessories, blue accent colours, and natural elements. From an oar mounted on the wall in the great room, nautical striped vases, glass float balls, nautically striped throws, custom made linen pillows with ‘lakeside living’ quotes, natural wood carvings of schools of fish and a canoe, driftwood balls, natural jute rugs, accessories bearing natural rope elements, no detail was overlooked.
The theme carries throughout the home, with nautically striped bedding in the master, adjoining walk-in closet with white linen attire nautically striped hand bag for the sailing family, to nautically striped hand towels in the master bath to coordinating bathrooms. Not one room is out of theme to create a feeling of a modern urban cottage living at its best.

The overall winner will be announced May 12th during their annual conference. To learn more visit: CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence.
We’re excited to work with the owners of Chives Canadian Bistro located on historic Brunswick Street to help them create a fresh new look. They are known for their amazing food, and we want them to have a space that is in line with their amazing food! Stay tuned!
We’re very excited to start work on 12 condos at Kings Wharf. We will be creating cohesive looks throughout 12 units, mixing and matching the existing furniture and adding pieces where needed. Our team will be putting the finishes touches on all the units so they are show ready. Stay tuned to see photos of the completed condos!
What a year it has been as a home stager in Halifax! We rolled into our fourth year in business in the fall of this year. It was our best and busiest year to date. We owe that to our amazing clients, home owners, realtors, home builders, developers, photographers that make our work look awesome, and our awesome fans!
When I started writing this I thought I might not have enough to talk about for a recap…but so much has happened! Early this year we rolled out our involvement in HGTV’s Humble Home Hunters where we staged an owner occupied home for the show targeting first time home buyers. That was an exciting project to be part of and it was great to finally have the show air and be able to share photos with everyone.
One of our favorite model home staging projects we worked on this year was Armco’s Information Center/model in Indigo shores. Staging it in modern urban cottage style we were able to work with local furniture designers, Relove to bring them into the project to create a reclaimed wood wall and a reclaimed wood headboard. Check out more by clicking here.
We were nominated for 2017 Halifax Small Business of the Year. Only being in our third year of business at the time of the nomination it was an honour to be nominated!
During the summer I was approached by Wicker Emporium to work with them as a photo stylist. Trending away from their traditional furniture it was a lot of fun to work with them, and photographer Justin MacDonald to create some cool, trendy styles for their fall collections. We’ve already had a peak at the new spring collections – wait until you see the coastal collection…gorgeous! See more pics by clicking here.
I brought on the lovely and talented Stephanie LaRue. She was a perfect fit for Staged for Upsell. Stephanie had experience as a home stager and decorator, and she also has the added talent of being a kitchen designer! I couldn’t be happier having her on the team – just love her! Picking a few of my favorite interior redesign projects of the year…one was a traditional cottage in the Hammonds Plains area and another an aviation inspired man cave:

Work was plentiful this year, a blessing indeed! We more than doubled our furniture inventory over last year and now carry Halifax’s largest home staging furniture inventory. How much you ask? For example…16 sofas, 17 dining tables…and much more. We will continue to expand it next year to meet the needs of our clients. We had the opportunity to have some interior decorating students work on some projects with us, notably Lindsey King who is finishing her two month internship with us soon. Here’s a before and after video of just some of the vacant properties we staged this year.
Armco Capital’s Governor’s Brook development kept us quite busy late this fall with three model homes, and another we are working on right now. Here’s a few photos of two of the units staged in a trendy fashion targeting first time home buyers.
We started working with realtors, home builders and developers this year that we hadn’t worked with in the previous year. Many of them I now consider friends.
And to end the year, I was voted Top 10 Vacant Home Stagers in Canada by RESA. Very humbling indeed and very special as it was peers in the industry internationally that voted. To read more click here.
Things look bright and awesome for 2017! We’re working on a few exciting things right now that will hopefully come to fruition. Thank you to all our clients, associates and fans for making 2016 so amazing!
Happy New Year!
